from what i read these have the barrel installed, would I still need the vise.  Are there any vises that can be used with out bolting to the bench.

I think it would be good if RCBS made a vise that worked with their accessory plate

Am i right about the barrel on these kits

I have no idea what the kits come with but as for a vise setup, here's what I use:

I bought a JT kit recently and the barrel is already on the upper and headspaced.  No need for a vise to complete the build.  I think most, if not all the kits come this way.  Have fun

You don't need a vise.

If you buy a kit the upper is shipped to you completely assembled, the only assembly needed is on the lower receiver, and that doesn't require a vise.

There are some assembly threads here, and in one of Faralak's I show how to assemble your lower using large vise grips pliers to press in the pins.

J&T uppers are completely assembled.  Like you would with any new rifle, clean and lubricate before you first fire it.

+1

Actually, I was kinda disappointed - darn thing was mostly assembled!!  Can’t say I felt any great sense of accomplishment when I got it together (which took less than an hour).
