I've been doing some hard thinking about what barrel type to get.  Model 1 sales says the barrels are slightly tighter on the .223, but i could still run the 5.56 nato rounds and it would not hurt anything.  I was wanting the most forgiving combination so i can mil. spec or the .223 rem. If i get the 5.56 how much velosity will i loose and accuracy using the .223???

FWIW, your wasting alot of effort over nuthin, buy the NATO 5.56 chambered rifle if your planning on using this rifle for plinking or your SHTF rifle. If you intending on 600-1000 yard shooting suggest ya buy a SAMI 223 chambered or RRA "Wylde" chambered rifle.

Velocity loss or accuracy will not be a concern, strictly talking chambers. Accuracy will be more affected by the barrel and whether it's a chrome-chambered and lined or a stainless-steel, (that and barrel twist rate vs bullet weight which ya intend on shooting). Here again if plinkin or SHTF is applicable to your intended use, "go chrome or go home". [;)]

BTW, all of this "chamber" info is discussed in detail here: www.ammo-oracle.com, which is tacked to the top of the Ammunition Forum.

PS - ratings on quality and construction are generally considered thus:

Top Tier
Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt

Second Tier
DPMS, Rock River Arms, Olympic, Eagle Arms

Bottom Rung
J&T Distributing, Model 1 Sales, Hesse

As cost is a viable concern, don't forget to check out Donnie here at: www.sablec.net and compare w/ your Model 1 pricing, ya may be able to get more/better quality than ya thought...
