Gr8 site! I had a quick question.  My agency is allowing us to purchase the Bushmaster XM15.  Anyway, the guys here were buying from Colt's Manufacturing.  Is the Bushmaster the same as the Colt M4..just another name?

The Colt M4 is a 16" automatic (burst or auto) carbine with specific features that Colt has patented (specifically, cuts in the upper receiver to facilitate feeding.

The Bushmaster Dissipator is a 16" carbine that uses the full size handguards.  As the gas block must remain the same location as a standard carbine, they place a cut-down gas block under the handguards and place a non-functional gas block (as a sight tower) out front.  They're very different rifles.

Bushmaster does make an M4-type rifle that is very similar to the Colt M4, but varies in twist (a 1/9 is also offered), handguards (only Colt has double heat-shielded), and lacks the feed cuts/ramps in the upper receiver.

the colt M4 that is military issue/LEO has a 14.5" barrell. colt also sells an M4 marked civilian carbine that is 16" and meets the AWB.
