Went to the candlepower forums party at the shot show, and Paul Kim of Surefire showed off some of SF's newest and upcoming products. One of the two that really caught my eye was the Surefire X300 light and laser combo for pistols. It was basically a X200, but with a IR and visible laser mounted above the light.
As I immediately thought upon seeing it, and as Paul Kim quickly explained, mounting the laser over the light, instead of under the light (as you see on about every other light companies light/laser combo) puts the laser closer to the bore of the weapon. This means point of aim and point of impact will be closer for longer distances. Why no one else thought of this earlier is beyond me?
The light, as you might guess, was extremely bright. It seemed to me that it was very much like the X200a 3 watt LED. But Im not 100% sure of that? The laser was crisp and bright. There was a control switch to switch between modes on the light. As I recall, light ony, laser only, light laser only, and IR. Im going off memory from two weeks ago, so I might be mistaken about the controls. Either way, it was pretty sweet!
I dont have a lot of other info on it, but I will answer questions as best I can. I'll tell you up front I dont know how much it will cost, what the specific lumens are, or exactly when it will be available. Mr Kim was not able to answer those questions specificly, at least at the time I was asking. I do believe it will be available sooner rather than later though. He mentioned that some agency (I cant recall which) was waiting on them!
Here's a few of my sucky pictures. Please note that these pics were taken on a USP clone gun using Surefire's new adapter for the USP. Mounting this to a weapon with a standard rail would make it sit even closer to the bore and even less bulky!
I also got one of their new helmet lights, but I have no helmet. So I gave it to a friend of mine who does. He'll be doing a review with pics as soon as time permits. Another very cool new item!
