On the carbine I like the laser on top of the RAS:

On the 9mm SBR I like it on the side:

I didn't have much of a choice, my laser ended up on the side.  I put the light underneath so at least only one side would be bulky rather than both.  If there is no laser, I still like the light underneath if possible as it makes for a nice flat rifle.

We made that mount but it is not a catalog item.  We will offer a production version after we incorporate user feedback.  The light shown is a Surefire M3 w/cover.

that is a great set up is that an SIR on a M4 setup? As for your wiring, I know a killer way to make it look not like tape with heatshrink. Would really finish off a nice AR project. 4 years of electronics and I can solder and shrink tape :) what does that light weigh and does it quickly detach?

I like the Surefire M900a which mount the light at 6 o'clock.

Thanks.

Yes, it is a SIR on a M4...

The heatshrink is a good idea (and one that I thought of) but I went with the many layers of electrical tape for its "cushioning" ability. I figure it could make the difference if it was bumped hard enough.
I'm not sure of it's exact weight, but it is not an issue for me. The size of the "Turbohead" is an issue, however. I plan on picking up the standard M3 when money allows and swap 'em around.
Mounted at 6:00 would not be so bad, but it begs to be snagged on something mounted where I have it.

Dianabol,

Do you ever feel that that huge monstrous light on your rifle isn’t practical?

No

If I did, it would not be on there.
It has a limited role, and it performs it well.
I need huge amounts of far reaching light on my rifle at the moment, and huge amounts of far reaching light it provides.
As I said before, I will be putting on a standard bezel in the future.

Well if someone did get under your skin you could just beat them over the head with the light. I could see how tape would be more cushion. They also just saw this have cushiony

Nothing wrong with beaming them with a light bright enough to make it shine out their ears [;)]

I prefer a simple push button end cap to eliminate the wire challenge altogether.  Also, I have not had a single light AD since dropping pressure switches.

Great pics, Southern.
I love the concept (and simplicity) of the push button, but I have found that I tend to fumble for it when under stress. I don't doubt that I'm in the minority there, but it is enough of an issue for me that I avoid 'em altogether.

How sensitive is that push button on Surefire?

How sensative do you want it?  By adjusting the tailcap you adjust the sensativity.

I too dropped the pressure switch for the tailcap after having problems 'flashing' the light when under stress.  So I use a GG&G Offset light mount with a Surefire 6v and tailcap (just recently upgraded from a G2 to a 650 thanks to BrightFlashlights!).

Sorry to diverge from the topic, but... for all of you guys who mount high powered tac lights and lasers, does the light "washout" the laser in CQB settings? what I mean is in a dark room could you see your laser with your light on?   thanks in advance.

oh and BTW, it seems like alot you guys are afraid of the dark still, lol.  Huge flashlights mounted on high powered black rifles lol!!

Under stress my pea-brain reverts to what I practiced most.  It usually takes several thousand repetitions for me to "burn" a new circuit in my brain.  Now, I never miss hitting the button.

Regardless of which setup you chose, the most critical thing is that you have your brain programmed to do what you need it to at the critical moment WITHOUT CONSCIOUS THOUGHT.

southern

Southern, When are you going to catalog that light mount? It's one of the more useful items I've seen!

Hey, check that post number! cool, huh?
