2x magnification on an Aimpoint ML2 is an option, what applications are the norm when choosing this option?

My purpose for outfitting my BM XM15E2S 16 inch is I am "accessorising" to get as close to a military workhorse rifle as I can get.

Cost efficiency appears to be good as I understand Aimpoint is a no thrills dependable red dot sight.

Pass on the 2X.  The regular Aimpoints (M2 and ML2) are better off without the magnification.  If you are looking for a magnified "dot" type scope, look at the ACOGS.

The 2X Aimpoint is, bar none, the worst optic I have ever looked through in my entire life.  If you doubt my assesment just go to a gunshow and look through one.

I think the unmagnified Aimpoint sights are excellent however.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I have had a 5000 XD 2X for several years.  It was the first red dot I ever bought.  I liked the 2X magnification of the sight.  Helped precision close in and extended the distance at which the optic could be used.  I have both 2X and unmagnified Aimpoints, and I like them both equally, although they're certainly made to fill separate roles.
