OK, I decided to get the Tasco Super Sniper scope. I just need to decide 10 or 16 power?? most of my shooting will be 100 yards due to the difficulty in finding 700 yard ranges. I am very new to shooting bolt action rifles and with scopes. But I do want to learn to shoot out to at least 500 yards accurately and would like to be able to get out to 1,000 yrds eventually. this will be mounted on a rem 700p .308

10x is perfect for 100 to 500 yards. As you increase the power of your scope's magnification, you get more and more mirage in your field of view.

10X give little to no mirage.

For your purposes, I would stick witht the 10x scope.

Yeah, I'll second the above.  Heck, 4X is enough magnification at 100 yards.  If you were doing most of your shooting at 500+ yards then go for the 16.  Greater magnification can also magnify your mistakes because the scope will seem to move more if disturbed.  MJD
