Hello.

What is the difference between Leupold's M1 and M3 models (both Mark IV and VARI-X 3 LR)

I've been trying to nail down it but the only difference I see is cam or oversized knobs. Is that it?

Thanks

M1 = 1/4 MOA click adjustments (windage and eleveation)

M3 = 1 MOA eleveation, and 1/2 MOA windage.

The M3 goes from 100 - 1000 yards in just one complete turn of the elevation dial.  Where the M1 would take multiple turns.

In a fast shooting scenario at different distances, one can forget how many times he has turned the M1 knob.  So finding your original 100 yard or 200 yard zero can be difficult.

The M3, makes that fast and super easy.

Also, the M3 is calibrated (elevation cam) for a multitude of calibers and grains.

[green]Edited to remove discussion of M1 vs M3 as Polyak posting is better (that is what one's gets when they take 15 minutes to post while getting ready for work [;)][/green]

IMO For many shooters at the range punching paper, the M1 works to allow you to get the bullet hole to hit the exact point of aim with an accurate rifle off of sand bags.  For for uses in the field and/or action rifle matches the M3 has a lot going for it.
