It is only a Generation 1 scope, so the clarity and detail of what you see in the dark is relativley poor compared to a Gen 2 or 3 scope which will cost you two to three times as much. You get what you pay for. It will probably work fine for some nighttime varmint hunting, but for something where you want great clarity as in combat, Gen 1 would not be a good option. It will work, but not work as good.
I have a Gen 1+ Monocular from Rigel Optics. It works fine and does the job I bought it for, but if I would buy another NV product, I would save up some more money and go for a Gen 2 or 3.
Gen 1 night vision products are usually made in Russia where most Gen 2 and 3 NVs are made in the U.S. I believe that federal law prohibits the sales of foreign made Gen 2 and 3 nightvision in the U.S.
