I've read that these limit the capacity of a 30rd mag body to 28 rounds... is this true?  Thanks.

Sometimes 29, but I haven't had any limit me to 28 yet.

It depends on the spring mostly in my experience whether it will accept 30 or 29 rounds.  Some of the extra power springs are longer.

Doesnt matter to me anyway.  I only load 28 just to piss off everyone on ARFCOM.

dupe from hell (no worries, it's not What gun did Al Pacino use in heat, or Which AR for me?)

The deal is They SHOULD accomodate 30 rounds but occasionally there is a fluke mag that does only 29.

With Wolff extra power springs, the limit is 29.

As of recently, big assed +1

I have over 50 mags with the new magpul and they all hold 30 rounds.

Which springs?

I think it would be helpful to qualify statements like this.  As I stated above, with Wolff springs, you can only get 29.

T-65 mags still hold thirty.

I can get 30 rounds in my mags with the magpul followers, but trying to get them to seat on a closed bolt for a tactical reload is problematic. So I only load 28 in the mag and do the push/pull tac reload.

Yep, i load my T-65s to 30. I slap it in there and none of the rounds jostle about. If your last round BHO is working fine, then slapping it like you hate it isn't going to do anything.

Hell, I only load 28 rounds too and my AR's have dings and scratches does this mean I get my Gucci Gear Club card revoked?

I guess I not one of the cool guys anymore...

28 is the norm for the Magpul follower and Ranger Plate combo. I can get 29 in with just the follower, but it's pretty tight. 28 just seems to function more reliably on the first round when dropping the bolt.

YMMV

Tack

I was browsing and found this thread.

I just installed 3 new Magpul followers into 2 used USGI mags and 1 no-name piece of crap mag that was a PITA to load and had feeding problems.  With the new followers, the USGI mags still hold 30 rounds and locked into my Bushy A2 without issues.  The POS mag won't fit more than 29 rounds, and with the Magpul follower it still fits 29 rounds and locks into the rifle without slapping it.  The Magpul follower changed my no-name POS mag from something I was going to throw out to something I can use now.

All of the mags previously had black followers.

What's the difference between the black and green followers?  The black ones I removed are pretty small in proportion and don't have the "legs" the Magpul followers have.  I ask since I am going to buy some USGI mags with green followers and don't know if I should get more Magpul followers to replace the green followers.

Thanks.
