When did they add that extra cannelure (or whatever that is midway up from the actual cannelure)?

The last batch of PPU I bought was around 10 years ago and it did not have that.

Done to increase fragmentation?

As mentioned that's from my collet puller. That's the best way for me to pull the bullet, and capture the powder charge. Frankford Arsenal has a kinetic puller that mounts to the wall that I may try. Steel case ammo, and sealed bullets are harder to pull :(

We may be talking about two different things here.

I think that the extra cannelure question was related to the 'engraved' lines around the bullet about 1/3 down from the tip, not the 'grab marks' immediately above the real cannelure.

It looks like these lines already exist on the picture of the ammo on the box too...

Then again, I might just be full of shit...

Oh, I see now, that's your picture superimposed on the box...

I guess that I'll have to vote for 'full of shit.'

I missed it. Do you mean what look like vertical lines? (next to red line)

No, I was referring to the circumferential lines at the base of your red line.  I didn't originally think that your bullet puller made them (since I would be pretty unhappy with a bullet puller that did that to any bullets I pulled)...

But I clearly see that they are made by the bullet puller now...

Sorry for the confusion...
