I'm looking for MK262 type ammo available on the market. I am aware of the imi offering but wanted to see if there was anything else.

Thanks!

I think this will be my next case. I’ve been using Black Hills blue box, and it’s awesome, but the price tag isn’t. I hear a lot of talk that the Magtech shoots pretty awesome while being considerably cheaper.

The Magtech SMK will outshoot 99% of us, myself certainly included. It's a laser beam.

With that said, I use the IMI loading since I know it's loaded quite hot. MK262 is my HD round so I prefer to have that extra velocity buffer to ensure the round can frag out of a 10" barrel. If I recall, bluefalcon got 2400+ fps out of his 10" with the IMI loading.

In my very unscientific test using a 6920 and an Aimpoint PRO, Federal FC262 shoots pretty well.

Not cheap though

Absolutely.
No special barrel, certainly no special nut behind the trigger.

5 shot group at 200 yards. Done while zeroing. Final adjustment below marked grouping with a called flyer.

CBC/Magtech is solid ammo. Buy with confidence.

I know Thales/ADI make a 77 grain OTM ammo very similar to Mk 262.  What I do not know is whether or not they ever intend to market it to the public as part of their Outback range.

Isn't that the standard issue round for the NZ army?

What velocity does 77g OTM frag down to?

Thanks. Hoped for lower, but I'm guessing that's around 125-150 yards from an 11.5"? Trying to decide between 77g Magtech and 55g PPU soft points for mine. No ideas on PPU's threshold either. .223 Gold Dots may be back in the race.

Edit: Yes, thanks for the chart. Pretty disappointing for a "long range" bullet. Considering that, I'd use it in SBR's or RDS equiped rifles. I'd read(Youtube) it was highly effective out to 600 yards. Which it may be if it still tumbles.

CBC or IMI. Neither are as accurate as Black Hill MK262, but both are very good loads. CBC is a little more accurate and IMI is a little faster. Order in bulk of which is cheapest.

This is why I also buy IMI usually.

Here are the numbers I got last summer with IMI 77gr from my FN 10.5":
83 deg, 80% hum,
avg - 2404
ex-spr - 105
std dev - 28

Do you remember the year of that lot of IMI 77gr? I believe IMI backed off from the top end by maybe 5% just recently due to the constant complaints of popped primers.

Yes and No.  The current in-service operational round is the original Mk 262 Mod 1, from Black Hills.  The round on issue from ADI is a training only variant of the F1A1, with velocity adjusted to mimic Mk 262 trajectory out to 300+ metres, called F262T.

I've been struggling to do better than 2 MOA with my mil spec barrel ARs using Hornady Steel Match 75 grain. I was considering rebarreling a few of my ARs. Then I bought a 50 round box of 77 SMK Magtech with my last order.

Here are two groups from today. Top is 75 Hornady Steel Match. Bottom is 77 grain SMK Magtech. I'm sold.

Good work. Some of my guns like 75gr loads. More like the Hornady Steel Training 75gr over the Steel Match 75 for some reason. But more guns love the 77gr loads. I wish Hornady came out with a 77gr load in their Steel Training line,

Very nice. Think of all that re-barrel $$$ you can dump into ammo.

Fiocchi and Sig also make a clone.

I have a Mod H, Mod 1, and Recce clone, and all of them like a different one.

So handloads it'll be....and IDGAF about getting max velocity, I want accuracy.
