For the last three months, I have seen IMI 77 grain on sale at MidwayUSA, SGammo, and other places. It is always deeply discounted and on sale everywhere. I have read some posts about popped primers after shooting that get lodged in the ARs.
Is this ammo still a good choice, or has the batches lately been a lot of trouble? It isn't normal to see ammo on sale for months at a time, so I wanted to get some feedback before I consider picking some up. Thanks! |

I've not had problems with my two year old batches. Just as accurate as the BH reman I shoot a lot of.
i bought some earlier this year.
30 rds - 30 blown primers. not using again. |
I have had ZERO issues with it from my 1 year old or older lots of IMI 77gr.
It is my go to for 18" Larue and have had zero issues in 2+ years
I shoot it in XTC high power matches at 200/300/600 yards in my service rifle with 223 wylde chamber. Have not had any issues in close to 2000 rounds.

I started a thread here about popped primers from this ammo out of numerous LMT and Colt rifles. The Ammo in question was from around 2015 ( in green commercial boxes ) and had numerous issues ( lot number is listed in original thread ) Older lots ( original brown box )of this ammo had no issues in these rifles and newer ammo ( both brown and green commercial ) have been good to go
For the poster that had 30 / 30 popped primers: what is the lot number and how old. What rifle and is it a .223 or 5.56? There is obviously something really wrong with 30 straight popped primers I had numerous issues, but it wasn’t every round. Temps were mid 60’s and was under a covered line.so the the sun heating ammo up was a non issue |

What year was your ammo manufactured? View Quote IMI 77gr Razercore is fairly warm, NATO spec ammo. While there may have been some ammo that was a little too hot (especially if left out in the sun) a few years ago, but 99% of problems such as popped primers are a result of non-NATO chambers. I've not had the slightest issues with it since 2013 using it in numerous rifles and pistol ARs. |

I don't have the lot numbers on hand, but I've no issues with what I've bought from the Midway sales earlier this year in my Tavor, SCAR, Savage MSR Recon, T91 upper, or my BCM upper.

Didn't IMI change propellants at one point with the 77 grain ammo?
I swear I remember a press release mentioning the pressure curve of the powder not being ideal across the broad-spectrum of non-standard ARs. 2015 or 16. |
I've only put about 70 rounds through two barrels. A Triarc 5.56 chamber, ans a Ranier Arms wylde chamber, zero issues and accurate. All bought this winter/spring.
Small sample size obviously. |

I shot some IMI 77gr OTM through 2 of my SR15 Mod1 and 1 of my SR15 Mod1 LPR with no problem.
However, it wasn't all that accurate when compared to Magtech and Black Hills. I remember it was 2013 manufacture date on the IMI I bought. |

why take the chance when CBC is less than 57 cpr and works amazing?
My groups are similar to those above. I usually get ~1 moa 5 shot groups with my BA Hanson premium 16”. |

I agree. If the price is the same or similar, I would get CBC. I had excellent results with the older CBC 77gr that came in the yellow 50 round box. I havnt tried any of the new stuff in the green box. View Quote |

I am about 700 rounds into IMI 77 grain with no issues at all. Larue Stealth barrel. Ammo lots range from 2013-2016.
Today, i shot both old and new box IMI 77. I had no issues with either.
the fact is, some barrel can handle it and that means you guys that blow primers need to get new barrels until you find one that works.
all about the chamber. |
It's always been good for me. Three lots now with no pressure issues in three rifles.
I have shot around 500+ rounds of the stuff from multiple lots with no pressure signs at all or any thing weird. It has been very accurate ammo for me.

I've got about 300 rounds of 77 grain IMI through my 12.5" Noveske Crusader. It's moore accurate than I am, I only have a 1-4x on it. Seems to be around 1.3 MOA accurate for me, again limited to just a 4x. No issues with the primers. Using a Toolcraft BCG.

Quoted: I've bought it over the years and suffered popped primers in guns that love M855A1 and Browntip. I have no clue what pressure it's running at, but neither the Browntip (70gr @ nearly 3000fps from a 16" gun), nor M855A1 (62gr at a touch over 3000) have suffered popped primers in those guns. The frequency with which I got dislodged primers led me to not use it anymore. I personally feel it's a brass or primer or dimensional issue though, because I doubt it's hotter than the other stuff I'm running. View Quote I've not encountered any issues with popped primers with any brand in my DD (10.3"), Faxon (16"), and PSA (10.5" & 16") barrels. |

I've tried the CBC 2014 Gold box, early 2015 Magtech Green box, and later/current 2017 Magtech Green box. From my experience, using SR15 Mod1 (CHF CL 16") and SR15 Mod1 LPR (SS 18"), the latest/current 2017 Magtech Green box 77gr OTM is the most consistent/accurate. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4726/38563051124_ca53e7219c_o.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4588/38563050344_b6289ab271_o.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4735/24407880907_c77de697b2_o.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4559/37978317285_f046915cb1_o.jpg View Quote CMMG RECCE-profile 16" barrel, 1:7 mid-length gas, regular 5.56 chamber, chrome-lined, scoped rifle (4X ACOG). IMI 77 gr 'Razor-Core' turned out to be the best of what I tried in it. Guess I've fired maybe 400 rounds of it without a problem of any kind. It is the ammo I stock up on for that rifle. |
