US ammo that has crimped primers will use a circular crimp, giving a 360° crimp. You will see a ring around the primer pocket that is about 1mm larger in diameter than the primer pocket itself. It is made with a crimping die, which is really a concave-faced punch.
 This is a pic of some .50BMG rounds. The top left has a circular crimp, while the others have a 3-point crimp. -Troy |
