Is there any way to make a load for a 1/9 barrel that will increase the lethality over a standard xm193 round, approaching or approximating the effects of the rounds the special operations guys are using?

I like the Sierra 69grn BTHP.

Now, I'm from Utah and don't know crap.  So, tell me if I am wrong.  But the terminal performance of these rounds is due to the fact that the bullet turns sideways before coming apart at the cannelure.

The Sierra doesn't have the cannelure, so does the increased bullet weight make the difference?

If you're looking for something more lethal than M193, it doesn't exist.

Its the long length and thin jackets not the cannelure.

68gr Hornaday

69gr Sierra MatchKing

75gr Hornaday

Some 1:9 rifles work with the 77gr SMK (the bullet used in Mk262 ammo), some don't - 1:9 is just 'on the edge' between too slow & fast enough of a twist for that perticular round....

Faster twists are better though, and the only affect twist has on ballistics is that it limits how heavy of a round you can fire, of course...

I have heard the 1 in 7 twist is slightly less accurate with 55 grain pills.  Is this true?  Is there any reason at all not to have a 1 in 7?  (I could care less about varmit rounds of 40 grains or less)
