Can anyone tell me about the South African 5.56 that Cole Dist. has on sale for $149.99?
Is it good ammo?
Seems like a good deal to me...

Hi Troy.....

I just picked up two cases of it and I think you have this confused with the 2700 round surplus tubs...

These come in 2880 rd tubs (same tub) but not packed in 300rd battle packs. They are packed in the 30rd boxes but in one ole plastic bag. It is loaded to M193 specs and is new production. Boxes are marked .223.... I'll check to see if there is a manufacture date some where on the case/boxes...

And as far as the cases I have inspected, she has just one hole in the bottom.... I don't reload, but noticed the berdan primed stuff typically has two holes in the bottom of the case...

I was getting 1 1/2" to 2" groups with my 16" lightweight colt. Dropped the bowling pins quite well...

For the 2880 case was $400 plus shipping.... To Upstate NY that was another $45 a case

I found it to be a good price....

Gotta link Dan?

The only South African new production ammunition that I am aware of is PMP, which comes in 20 round 'gazelle' boxes.

What is the headstamp?
Did you chrony it?

Just so you know, that price is equivalent to $46.35/SA Battlepack.

That isn't a really great deal compared to what it used to be ($33.00), but at 15 cents per round, it isn't a bad deal either for reloadable brass.  [:)]

No not the 20rd stuff. That is not loaded to the M193 standard...

http://www.coledistributing.com/

type in 5.56 in the search box... 149/990rds or $400 for the 2880rd case...

You can email Lenita at coles [email protected]

I have always have trusted these guys... With shipping on Q3131a that would be close but a few bucks more...

Sorry no chronoghraph...... Headstamp, will check but it is marked .223... Not sure what else but something else..

Hmmmm.  That is very interesting.  Only 15 cents or so per cartridge, Military surplus, boxer primed ammo?

I'd love to see some reviews for this stuff.

Is it clean?
Is it fast?
Is it accurate?

I wonder why 223 would be on the headstamp for true military surplus ammunition?

Thanks Dan, for the info!

The PMP "gazelle" box is .223 ammo that is boxer-primed and is loaded at slightly less pressure than their SA M1A3 surplus 5.56mm ammo that is berdan-primed and definitely pushing the 55-gr fmjbt bullet at least 100-fps faster.

Torf...

The stuff is clean. Not much clean after afternoon of couple hundred rounds..

M193 specs are what is being sold. I have no way of checking the velocity at this point..

But this is Denel production and the outside of the brown tub was marked for Coles Industries by Denel (Prty)... Boxed in 30rd boxes, in a 2880 rd tub..

Buying by the tub it works out to be $.1545 around delivered to Upstate NY...

The last tub of SA I bought was $315.01 for 2700 rounds shipped. Those were the good old days I guess.

SPG has 2700 rd. tubs for $309.97 + $20 + shipping ($40?) and these are the battle packs.

Inflation at work I guess.

The well-known 300-round battle-pack ammo with the 1980s headstamps was made by Armscor, which later changed its name to Denel.

So, the 30-round boxes of boxer primed .223 with the DNL headstamp is quite good ammo, as it is made by the same company (PMP) as the milsurp ammo and is much younger.

PMP (which also produces the 20-round "gazelle" box ammo) is a 100% subsidiary of Denel.

55R ;

Go to the link - type in "search our site" box 5.56 and you will get a resulting display of a pic and the following details.

"223/5.56 SOUTH AFRICAN
M-193, 55 gr.990 rnds. FMJ This is true South African Military ammo not commercial, not to be confused with other South African being offered.Non Corrosive, boxer primed and brass cased. This ammo has the flash retardent in the powder, manufactured by the Denel Group, South Africas prime Government contractors.Price does not include shipping.
 #SAF01...$149.95

Size 990 rnds

Qnty

I have bought this Ammo from them long time ago (more tthan a year ago) and it is very bright shiny brass and headstamp of "denel"  - It is definately different type of ammo than the Surplus in Battle packs.  IT does have "flash retardent" in powder.  This was also available from the very begining from Cole when SA hit the market. He also hade IMI ammo during that time. I still have quite a bit left from my first order.  Definately Mil. Spec and best of the SA.  If you like SA, you will like this ammo even better.

The tub is $399 and shipping was quoted at about $45 to my AO

That's about 15.5 cents per round. Not too bad, not too good.

This PMP South African stuff is definitely the best 5.56mm for the money, period! Let me know when S/G has it in stock.

Just received my tub of 2880 rounds from Cole Distributing.  $399.95 + 50.04 shipping to the Dallas area = $449.99 (15.6 cents/round).

Packed 30 rounds per cardboard box, 96 boxes to the tub.

Headstamp is "DNL 223 REM"

Lot #005, the tub is marked "July" but no year markings anywhere.

Haven't fired any yet, maybe this weekend.

I bought this because (AFAIK) US M-193 spec ammo doesn't contain flash retardants.

Just before you click submit at SG, you'll be told that expected availability is September 22, 2003.

Not that it's all bad, I placed an order "in case" they ever get it in....  hth  MournSword

Anyone know of anywhere else to get it reasonable?  (Like that hasn't been asked before....)

Edited 'cause I can't read
