It will not cycle with subsonic. Consider a .22lr kit though.

There is a company that makes subsonic that will cycle, but they don't sell to the public. I believe it is TTI armory, or ITT, I'm not sure, but I know they won't sell to civilians. Which I think is a load of crap!

How heavy is the bullet? Post a link if there is one. It may be possible to duplicate it.

I was told that it uses a 105 grain projectile.

I doubt that we could get that projectile.
Any swagers in the house want to make some money? Actually, bullet casters could make a 105 grain bullet. Since subsonic velocities would be slow enough to use lead only, jackets wouldn't be needed. |

on the swaging,,anyone with a corbin rimfire jacket swage kit,,,could maybe get up to about 90 grains,,now you got me thinking,,hafta go dig them dies up and tinker,,but what about the rate of twist to stablilize that heavy of a bullet,,,

The information that I received was that a 1/7 twist will stabilize the heavy round. Isn't there a manufacturer out there that would just sell the projectile?

Car15, sierra is making some of the vld style bullets, from off the top of my head they were like 85g, but a boat tail,(just look in midway from all the different manufacturers) longer and harder to stablilize, flat based bullets tend to stay the most stable at lower rpms,yaw when coming free of the barrel,,which, if you have that can on there, and the bullet is less than stable,,I would tend to think you might ruin a can,,, as I recall from reading over the yrs,,just thinking off the top of my head,good luck

The most stable bullet I can think of that would have the most mass possible would be a cylinder, or maybe a rounded cylinder.
The bearing surface on a cylinder would be pretty high, but we are only talking about 900-1000 fps here. The TTI subsonic round is cylindrical. Seems like you could cast it relatively easily.

If it is solid lead, with no jacket, there will be a problem with lead building up in the gas tube, correct?
Perhaps, even more than with the .22LR since the diameter of the bullet is larger, and the OAL is also longer. TRG |

I don't really know. I'd probably cast it with some harder lead, though, and use a gas check. That would probably help.

I think you'd be happier with a .22LR kit and some Aguila 60gr SSS rounds. Cheap, easy, and effective to 50 yards, which is about the best you can hope for with a subsonic load.

The extreme shock bullets will cycle the action of the M4 and remain subsonic. I tested their ammo on my M16 with an AWC Raider can and it remained consistant at 975fps. However, it's very expensive and due to the weight of the bullet and slow speed, at 25yds the path of the bullet was stable; at 50 yds they were tumbling. Also, the sound of the bolt carrier was very noisy. I plan to stick to the subsonic that will not cycle the action. If the price ever comes back down to earth on the extreme shock ammo, I will invest.
