Long story short, I'm selling this upper for a buddy of mine. Young kid who bought this used, has had it for years and wanted to swap it out for something modern. He has no knowledge of firearms therefore I have to confide in you guys for answers I should already have.

This is obviously a Colt upper receiver, I'm just not sure about the barrel. There are absolutely no markings on it however it looks very similar to a Colt HBAR assembly. The FSB pins look like they haven't been touched in ages, the gas tube/barrel seem to be in the same condition/as used as the receiver which leads me to believe it's from the factory.

This also had a Colt AR-15 cut BCG/generic charging handle in it, which he kept. Furthering my belief that it this is all from the factory. Flash hider uses shims instead of crush washers, exactly what Colt used.

Since there are no markings, I'm wondering if you guys can identify by profile? Maybe there are markings under the barrel nut? I'm used to Colt branding any and everything they sell, figured the barrel would have had some sort of identification on it.

Edit: The upper receiver also has quite a bit of residue in the channel of the carry handle, to me this indicates to me that an optic was mounted on this upper at some point in time. Maybe this was the upper of a Colt R6600DH. A bit of a reach but I'm grasping for straws, I'm not well versed in A2's.

No marking not a Colt barrel. Back in the day Bushmaster sold heavy barrels that looked like that(nothing marked including the front sight baseI know I bought one back then.

Profile looks correct but if it lacks the usual Colt markings it’s not a colt.
Even a Bushmaster barrel would have been marked (B MP etc).

It’s also missing the step in barrel diameter right before the FH.

A colt barrel would also have a barrel mfg date marking under the hand guard near the FSB

That's not a Colt HBAR.

Very well could be a Delta HBAR’s upper. Everything looks correct, plus forged at Martin Marietta which is correct for a Colt from that timeframe.

That’s not a Colt barrel though.

Some shots of my Delta HBAR for comparison:
