Last night I was sifting through the Small Arms Review Archive and I found this interesting rifle. It is a U.S. Property Marked XM177 with a North Vietnamese Stock.
According to SAR, the translation of Hai-Quân Công-Xuong is, "Naoy Factory," but google translate says, "Navy-Army-Workshop" (because we know google translate is precise ).
These other two rifles have been seen here before, but I thought these three amigos deserved to be together...
This rifle is in Cambodia and was still kicking at the time of this video in 2015. Evidently, the rifle was "shooting high" but I think these boys just couldn't handle the recoil (especially with no comp). Throws a big flame as a result too.
And finally, there's this guy. An XM177ish upper with a handguard made from a 57mm recoilless rifle casing. Check out the upper receiver. Where'd it go?

Does the one the guy is holding up have a 607 stock on it?

I was also thinking that something about that rifle makes the stock look small but it could just be the proportions haha. As far as I can tell its a Type D. It's certainly not a 607.

Either way, I'd love to do a build with handgaurds like that & a 607 stock.

That upper was found in 1990 at the arms dump outside of old Saigon - I'm presuming the receiver was crushed.

I was guessing that the earth took it back. Thanks for the info!

Very interesting O P. I like the handguard with the large poka dot holes. Looks kinda like something cobbled off a browning machine gun sleeve. Cute looking carbine. Looks all business.

To me the most interesting part of this is a 566xxx serial number XM16E1 with a full fence proves they didn’t run the serial numbers in order mine is a 601xxx and it’s a partial fence.

But we knew that already
There’s too many examples.

True it just always peaks my interest when I see something like that. I’m curious as to why they didn’t run the serial numbers in sequence

that stock is interesting. i guess they could have sand cast it but to get their own markings is taking it a step beyond making a functional replacement part.

I don't really like carbines, but I kinda want one of those stocks. Are you saying you don't own one yet?

Ive seen the photos of that Aussie modified Colt Commando for years, I wonder why they put a wood handguard on. Looks pretty slick IMO!
