For those that may not have noticed it, Jack the Dog has a beautiful 3-digit 1964 SP1 for auction.  He is noted for the excellent photos he takes and this is a great documentation of an early AR-15 from the hang tag to the box.  As you would expect, lots of early features like transitional bolt catch, dimpled selector, etc. are clearly shown.  I'm sure it won't sell cheap as it's already at about $3K with 13 days to go.

Not mine of course.    https://www.gunauction.com/buy/15373302

Magazines blocked to 5 rounds in 1964 (hang tag says it)? Never knew that.

Yeah, I knew an old time dealer that had a box of those five round blocks.  They were simple to remove, and all of his customers had him do so.

I had an SP-1 at my house a long time ago, way before I was into the retros.  It was a later SP1 but it also had those magazines, with metal followers.

These were the only, albeit low quality, photos I took of it.  Didn’t know what to look for back then. (Featuring the coolest sheets of all time)

In 1964 they could ship straight to the customer!
Ah, good ol' days!
My 1982 SP1 is my avatar. Just got it a couple months ago, first AR for me, probably the last. Just wanted one that looked like what my brother used in Vietnam.

The market is way down right now for SP1's (of any variety) but I agree that it sold for less than I thought it would
