I am looking for a brake for my 308 ar. I have a linear comp right now that redirects the sound well, but doesn't do much for the recoil. I would like something like the aac single chamber brake, something compact. It does not need to be suppressor compatible.

What are my options?

I personally can't tell any recoil difference between firing a .223 or .308 AR based rifle with a brake installed versus a flash hider.

The difference I do notice is that both are a hell of a lot louder with a brake installed.

I would not automatically discount buying a suppressor adaptable brake if you decide to buy one. Wisconsin may not allow suppressors on them, I don't know. But many states are changing the law which helps with noise abatement at shooting ranges and you may not stay in Wisconsin forever. A silencer adaptable suppressor will save you from having to buy another one should you go that route.

PWS FSC 30. I have several on both 308, 7.62X39. Really dampen recoil but very loud.
I buy the scar takeoffs for about $55-$60 in the EE.

BCM Mod1 for my Armalite. Great job, straight back recoil. Practically no muzzle rise.

See if anything in this article helps with picking a muzzle break.
