Wasn't sure where to ask this but since .22 is kind of a variant I figured I'd post here. What all do I need for a .22lr conversion? Have a squirrel and raccoon I need to take care of and rather than buy a whole other rifle I figured I may as well just buy a conversion for when I need it. And will I be able to just switch the two (.22/5.56) out back and forth or do I need a complete different upper? Thanks.

Jut the drop in .22 BCG, and a .22 mag.

CMMG makes a good .22 drop in conversion.

Same barrel, buffer, buffer spring and everything? So a bcg and a single mag and I'm gtg?

Yes, that's all your going to need.  But as addictive as these are, it wont be too long before you buy a couple more
Mags!!!

ill only need one .22 mag. I already have 10 5.56 pmags for real ones. .22 just gonna be for squirrel duty.

I looked into doing the conversion, too and find it important to note that the 22lr accuracy out of the 5.56 barrel is oftentimes pretty poor.

I ended up just buying a (second) Ruger 10/22 and tricking it out.  I'm still thinking about doing a dedicated 22lr upper as well.

A ruger 10/22 is cheaper than the conversion kit.
Buy a 22 and take care of the issue
