How short can you take a barrel with a rifle gas length and still have reliable function? what about a midlength?

I've had a mid length system on my ORC and have had zero problems. I've even used Wolf and Brown Bear 150gr steel cased ammo with ZERO issues.
.308 PMAGS help as well for reliability, but the mid gas system seems to work perfectly for me thus far.
YMMV

I guess I wasn't very clear. What I am asking is, how short can I cut a 20" rifle barrel before it doesn't have enough dwell time to function properly.

Also, how short can I cut a 16" midlength before it doesn't have enough dwell to function properly.

I am planning on cutting a midlength gas barrel down to 13.7" and am curious about rifle length gas systems too.

Fulton has a 16" barrel with a rifle length gas system. You might be able to get away with going that short

that is not a whole lot of barrel after the gas block. I wonder how reliable it is.

Is this what you are talking about?
