Here is mine. Its a 16 inch barrel with the midlenth rail that is extended to 12 inches on the right and left side and the bottom.

Man that makes that 14.5 look so much longer,Thats what I have ,Im thinking of free floating it with no fsb so there is no shadow in my TA01NSN,And it will look good,keep them coming

FYI - I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure DD does not make a 13.2 rail. Unless DD is coming out with one at SHOT then LaRue is your only choice for a 13.2
I personally think a 12.0 is plenty long enough on a 14.5 or 16 but that's just my opinion. |

It's a light weight 14.5" from CMMG, I got tired of lugging a 10lb. rifle around

This has always been my favorite configuration, but then I started thinking about, the extra leverage on the barel nut, which is attached to the upper receiver. I know I can flex a 12.0 rail, which will move the barrel, but the bolt in the receiver will not be moving with the barrel. That cant be good. Maybe I'm just thinking too much?

I'll tell you why I did it, I hate touching hot barrels, I like the generous length upon which to grab the handguard like a standard rifle, and I want the option of using a bipod. Plus, it allows the front sight to sit a little farther up towards the muzzle.

On that note, I weighed that AR (pictured) last night. As pictured it's 8 pounds w/o the magazine. Not too shabby really. |

I just don't feel like typing long replies ;)
- the basic reason is I want the free float joys but dont' want all the rail positions (or covers, rail ladders etc). The PRI fits the bill in terms of what I want to do and how I want to use it. |

Looks like I will be useing the 12.0 .I think I will sell the 14.5 M4 barrel and get a 16" light weight,I have never seen a 14.5 pencil barrel
Whats a good gas block that will clear? |

If I am not mistaken CMMG does offer 14.5 inch chromelined 1/7 twist barrels. They can perm attach a Phantom or Vortex if you do not want to go the SBR route. |

14.5 light weights,I will have to get ahold of them.
Why im doing it.Well I wanted to get rid of my fsb,so the shadow of it wouldnt be in my TAO1NSN,so I started looking at low pro gas blocks,then I seen where some people cut the tower off,and left the gas block,but somewhere I read that some of the really low profile gas blocks were used for fitting inside a rifle length ff tube on carbines,and after seeing the pictures,I have to say they look really nice |

Well... if you are, you are at least thinking correctly. The handguards that attach to the barrel nut are known to present a problem with flexing the alignment of the bolt and barrel, this causes the load on the bolt (when fired) to be largely taken up by only a few of the lugs, resulting in binding or even breaking. This is one of the reasons that so many people are interested in solid upper receivers and handguard mountings that transfer the load to something other than the barrel nut... |
