I am curious about the Les Baer Flattop uppers, specifically the ones without forward assist.
Anyone have any experience or opinions on the product?

Anyone?
I must be the only guy who wants an ejection port flat top with no forward assist?

I have one. Good quality, no complaints.

The first M16 I had in Vietnam did not have a forward assist, its there for a reason.

I prefer mine without. Only one of my six AR's has an FA. I guess I have a thing about extraneous weight and protrusions.

Points to ponder:

The designer of the M16 didn't think they were necessary.

The Marines didn't want them on their rifles.

The last thing I want to do with a round that won't chamber is force it.

If it's really necessary, there's a half-moon cut-out in the bolt carrier that serves the same purpose.

I'm with you Rodent.  I hate that damn thing.
Glad to hear they are okay.  Thanks.  You happen to have a pic of it on your rifle?

I use the FA to close the bolt after doing a press check.

I couldn't keep my bolts open if I wanted to, they just go home no matter how gently I release the pressure on the charging handle.

Ever notice how perfectly that cut-out in the bolt carrier fits your thumb? If you ever do need a little extra force to close the bolt after a press check or whatever, that's what it's there for.

Very nice and thank you sir.
I want to get into flat tops, and don't want any more crap on the side if I don't have too.  I don't need a brass deflector, my sp1 and carbine don't, but I can live with that.
