Don't forget the ladder type rail covers, I like to use them on the bottom or tiny rail spaces, they're easy to cut.

KAC - positive lock, more battle proven than any of the others and I'm a creature of habit and they are all I've ever used.
The low profile ladders are nice for dressing up unused and/or uncovered rails. I've done that a couple of times also. YMMV. |

KAC panels are good, but the rattling of the metal clips freaks some folks out (military guys tape them) and they are pricey. If you like the look and feel of the KAC panels, but don't like the metal piece or the cost of them ($22 retail) then look at these:

I have these on my AR-10 SEBR and like them a lot. I've seen the type that completely covered the rails and really didn't care for them much. The ladder covers fill in the gaps so the handguard doesn't chew up your hand - the Armalite rails were a little sharp. Well worth the few bucks each. |

Say Grant, who makes that rail you pictured?
What annoys me is that KAC rails and covers have been around for so long, I think every manufacturer should make their rails compatible with KAC covers. Daniel Defense, SureFire rails are completely compatible, while LMT's MRP does not have the relief towards the breech, and from what I can see, Troy's rails don't have the relief cuts at all. |

Not me. At $1200 or so, no way.  Picture that Dremel bouncing wildly out of control all over that thing. Maybe a in a mill with a tiny, tiny end mill. Clean it up with a jeweler's file and there you go.

For the money I think the Tango Down rail covers are tough to beat. They're also more secure than the Magpul covers I own.

Magpul covers are great for the money as so are the Tango down. I like the KAC but for the money I will stay with Magpul, plus the texture and extra grip they offer they are hard to beat.

I got my KAC for $15 from a private seller on the EE. KAC are awesome and they do not rattle.

I have the Tango Down covers that came with my MRP, and the Magpul Rail Propectors...not the XT Covers.
I actually like the Magpul Rail Protectors over the Tango Down covers because they are: 1. Much less bulky. Really no bigger than the rail itself. 2. Are easier to customize for length. 3. Can be used on the top rail as well as the other 3 sides 4. You don't have to remove equipment to remove the covers, unlike the TD which have to be "Slid" on and off from fore to Aft, these "Press On" into the desired slots, and..... 5. I like the way they feel. Comfortable and functional. Just my .02 cents. Tack |
