IT'S AN LMT 16" M4 CONTOUR BARREL, 0.625" UNDER THE HANDGUARDS. VERY LIGHT.
I USE THE PRI GAS BLOCK, LIKE YOU CAN SEE ON MOST PICS OF UPPERS WITH RIFLE LENGTH GAS SYSTEMS. WES GRANT M.S.T.N. |

I want an upper just like this, but with a medium-weight mid-length gas system bead blasted stainless 1/8 or 1/7 barrel... With the Troy sights, but without the ACOG. How much will that run me? |

PAUL AND I HAVE SETTLED ON WHAT WE REFER TO AS OUR "MOD 1" RECCE CARBINE: 16" DOUGLAS (FOR NOW - LILJA AND KRIEGER COMING) PREMIUM MATCH GRADE STAINLESS MID-LENGTH, CONTOURED EXACTLY LIKE OUR 16" MID-LENGTH 6.8 SPC BARRELS. OURS ARE EXACTLY LIKE 5TH GROUP'S 6.8 SPC BARRELS, EXCEPT WE HAVE ADDED AN OPS-INC "SHOULDER" COMPATIBLE WITH THE OPS-INC 12TH MODEL SUPPRESSOR BARREL COLLAR. NO, WE HAVE NO OPS-INC 12TH MODEL SUPPRESSORS, UNFORTUNATELY. WE'RE EVEN (ALMOST) OUT OF OPS-INC SPR 2-PORT MILITARY BRAKES IN 5.56MM. Oh my gawd Wes, I think I'm gonna be sick... and to think I was trying to pay off my credit cards. I wish you'd screw up once in while so I could convince myself to NOT pay your premium prices for your DAMNED PERFECTIONIST CREATIONS!! If you were a woman, we would call you an "evil temptress". Shit, I gotta go. I need to go look at my credit card statements and open up the gunsafe and see if there's anything I can sell to come up with the money for this thing. How difficult is it to install the LaRue handguard over the PRI SPR gas block? I seem to recall someone else saying that the LaRue needed to be dremeled out in some areas in order to go on. I might be thinking of the wrong gas block though, but I was just curious as this is very similar to my next build. Nice looking gun BTW! |

YES, IT'S THE PRI. IT'S MORE WORK, BECAUSE THE LARUE FOREND IS NOT MILLED OUT AT THE AFT THREADED END TO ALLOW THE GAS BLOCK TO SLIP THROUGH. THE GAS BLOCK AND GAS TUBE MUST BE WORKED INTO POSITION FIRST, AND THEN SECURED, WHILE THE LARUE FOREND IS BEING INSTALLED. CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO MAR THE FOREND DURING THIS PROCESS, NOT TO MENTION GETTING THE GAS BLOCK STRAIGHT. WE HAVE A TECHNIQUE THAT IS WHILE RATHER TEDIOUS FOOL-PROOF. HOWEVER, THIS EXTRA MATERIAL MAKES THE LARUE A LOT STRONGER AT A MOST CRITICAL LOCATION. SO WHAT IF BUILDING THE UPPER TAKES AN EXTRA 15-30 MINUTES? WES GRANT M.S.T.N. |
