Quoted: I'm no big fan of Colt's silly antics with regard to the civilian market either, but I sure wouldn't let that be cause for me to buy a bushmaster if it's my life that would be protected by the rifle.

There are HUNDREDS of contractors (at least) over in Iraq right now carrying factory Bushmaster rifles (many of them select-fire). These rifles are being used in harsh desert combat conditions, and there have been no reports of problems with any of them that I'm aware of. At least one of AR15.com's own members is carrying one right now.
Additionally, there are hundreds (at least) of Bushmaster uppers in use by US soldiers. Many of these are M4 uppers, used to convert M16A2s into a more user-friendly size for the duration of their tour. Some are 11.5".
There are also tens of thousands of Bushmaster rifles in use by police departments all over the country, as well as the militaries of a number of countries.
You can buy whatever rifles you like, of course, but make sure you have all the facts before you insinuate any inferior quality from Bushmaster.
