I've been doing a little research on a AR I'm considering buying.

Can someone confirm these SGW lowers are forged??

Did you check out the Oly site where it goes through how to tell?

Cast have RAISED lettering usually. Forged are imprinted.

If I am not mistaken, they have both forged and cast SGW lowers. Intersting to note that Oly has been known to take customers cast preban lowers and destroy them, replacing them with brand new forged lowers with the same serial number as the destroyed cast reciever. These are completely preban legal. Last I heard they charged about $100 or so.

this is a pre-ban gun that has the "stop sign" marking on the lower receiver
I think I'll just check the SN with the list before I buy but the photos on the web site help too

The "SGW" in an octagon w/CAR-AR, 223-556 are for the most part forged. Pre 90-91 lowers, I bought 2 in late '89/early 90. Serial # start w/ "F", mine did.

The SGW's that I have seen and own are forged.
