So the ACR will come out sometime in 2012?

Here they go again.. What happened to the last how ever many millions they spent doing this? There are several  canidates out there now. It as always will be good entertainment.

I wonder if they will entertain any piston systems be they new rifle altogether such as Ruger 556 or  Masada??

Vulcan/Hesse/What ever they call themselves this week, can now, finally actually be THE machine gun of the special forces.....

My guess is the front runners will be the M4, M4 with a piston conversion (possibly), SCAR, and the Masada/ACR (possibly).

IF (big if imo) there's a change I'm figuring the SCAR will get it.

They aren't replacing the M4.  They didn't replace the M9 like they wanted to.

Welcome to ACR Phase I, circa 1986.
The Stoner Platform is here to stay, until caseless ammo or direct energy weapons.

doesnt really matter who wins. The legal battles will be drawn out for years and in the end we will still have the M4

It will be interesting to see if anything really comes out of this. I'm guessing that if they do anything it will be an upgraded piston m4 type system or the scar.

Interesting. Having now researched the SCAR a little more and looking at the breakdown it is not a huge change by any means. It will be interesting to see if caliber change comes back into play also. For some reason i keep having this picture of a monkey and a football in my head as i think more about this subject. : )

We should write the Army brass and give them a 2 million dollar option. We will take 5 guns of each pick and a handfull of us Arfcomers.. Half prior or current military and the rest civy commandoes.. Put the guns through there paces ( READ FREE AMMO) and then give them a break down of our findings. The monkey and football would be optional for us.

Is there another platform on the market that is more accurate and reliable as the M4?

I hear the accuracy just isnt there on the XCR .what has been your experience?

I don't have glass on mine yet. The XCR is capable of sub moa. I have seen others post targets demonstrating this.

I thought the whole point was that the Army wants a gun with improved reliability (), lighter weight, and more ballistic power.  Any weapon that runs the 5.56 would automatically fail that test...right?

Retrofit M4's to 6.8 with OPS-416 kit.

Biggest bang for the buck.

Look, if the military isn't looking for things that aren't potentially better, I'd say the supply and ordnance department isn't doing their job.

Shopping does not a purchase make. New offerings are compared to what's in inventory now. Until announced, it's not replaced. Simple as that.

I realize some here behold the AR with religious zeal, so the above is sacrilege to you. Flame suit on.

Here we go again...

You would think that if SOF uses the SCAR then perhaps it would be good enough for the rest of the Army and DOD, afterall the testing and R&D has been done.

Why don't we just get it over with and go to the AK? I mean thats what everybody else is doing right? LOL

But seriously, this won't go well...I know for a fact there are still units out there using M16A2's...how in the hell will the army expect to make a complete platform change using those ancient artifacts?

No it would not, and this is why. We still have shit tons of 5.56 ammo. Thats why easy caliber conversion will be a neccesity on the new rifle.

It will be between the SCAR and the ACR. ACR for the win, due to full ambi controls and no government funding went into R&D.

But every year we piss away millions just to find out there is no appreciable benefit to any of the weapons systems on the market.

Nope, you don't need sub moa accuracy on a battle rifle.

I just don't beleive all of these non-match grade barreled, piston guns are capable of sub moa like alot of people say.

I will buy a XCR when they do go to the 1/7 tubes on them.

However that being said, from a practical stand point I am not sure we (military members) get with them beyond our current M4s and A4s?

Comrade Obama wants to nueter the military so I'm sure they will get something with 10 round mags and without a pistol grip(it's so scary).  Look for lots of bad decisions to be made in the near future.

Sounds like a good plan to me too.

However, if I remember correctly, wasn't the .276 Pedersen in the Garand axed because MacArthur said we had too much .30-06 already on hand?

I see the same thing happening in the case of the 5.56 x 45.

If they switch to a better cartridge, they should sell the surplus 5.56 to us civilians, that stuff would be sold in a couple of months.

Another waste of money. Not because it's an all bad idea, but because the government will wait (until every last dollar is pushed into it before they have to make a commitment) to bail on the project.

I hope Remington doesn't buy into this and delay their rifle, yet again. With Remington in place of Bushmaster, I'd say they gain a lot of political points over being Bushmaster though.
