The 7.62 should be just fine.  IIRC the commercial .308 loads will have higher pressures than the 7.62.

You'll be okay. It's the opposite with 7.62 Nato, than it is with 5.56 Nato

5.56 NATO has higher pressure curves than .223 commercial

.308 commercial has higher pressure curves than 7.62 NATO

dont expect great accuracy with machine gun bullets.  get some 175gr match ammo to see what its capable of, and use the cheap stuff for practice or whatever.

thanks alot for the info. If I shoot 7.62 ball machine gun ammo through it is it goin to harm my barrel any more than a match grade round would thanks again.

No, your barrel will only wear from heat not from the rounds you shoot. According to fellas that know more than I do about MG ammo, you'll get less accuracy with it.

only instance it would harm your barrel is during breakin.  not harm, but not help.  use a hpbt, not a fmj with an exposed base.

Hey guys I have a similar question, I think its been answered but just to make sure.  I have a buddy who has a bolt action 308 hunting rifle.  I can't remember who makes it, but he loves to target shoot with it, but the price of 308 ammo is to expensive for him to shoot it much.  Can he shoot 7.62 through it, I think I can get it cheaper for him so he can have a little more fun.  I see that you guys are saying their is less powder in a 7.62 so are you saying bullet size should be fine, hes not going to blow his gun up or anything.
