I enjoyed the thread on the little Mk 18 Mod 0 a lot and got to thinking of building myself a carbine loosely based on the Mk 18.
I got to checking around the shop and remembered I had an early LMT 10.5 upper with no LMT logo on it that nobody wanted as there was no logo. There was a time just a couple of years ago when LMT did not logo their uppers. I started with the LMT as a base. I had a used Knights M4 R.A.S. in the parts collection and decided that since so many Knights parts were used on the Mk 18's that I would use as many Knights parts as were in stock. I saw a lot of the earlier models used the R.I.S. but I didn't have one and also I like the R.A.S. better and I did see some pics of Mk 18's with them so I used it. I used the Knights R.A.S., a KAC 300 meter BUIS as some of the pics had them. I used KAC rail covers and a KAC Vertical Grip. I updated a bit by using a LaRue Cantilever Aimpoint mount as it would make room for the PVS 14 and it is the best mount going. The Aimpoint is a 4 MOA. The BCG is an LMT M16 unit. As soon as it comes in the MK will have a KAC M4 QD silencer mount for my KAC can. For that reason and strength I also used a PRI Gas Buster charging handle. Every CQB weapon needs a light so I used a Surefire M951 but used a thumb switch for simplicity and reliability. The lower I used was a Colt M16A2 that was already set up with a LMT SOPMOD and the Magpul Miad grip. The MIAD might not be really authentic to the Mk 18 but I love the grip and was not going to change it to an A2 to make a totally accurate clone. Anyways here are the pics and I hope you enjoy them. thats a damn fine lookin rifle!
im woking on something similar but since im a lowly civilian with no status of being anything more i have to jump through hoops and hope i get the expensive stamp in return. i changed mine up though and tailored it to my needs/likes a bit more though. |

 Stunning build Denny! Only thing I would change is a KAC-QD mod instead of the A2 fh... But the lower kind of makes up for that!

Nice blaster. It looks like mine.
Since I like my Shorty so much, my 14.5" doesn't get much playtime anymore. The 10.5" is a lot easier to manipulate in/out of vehicles and buildings. Have fun. |

Looks really spectacular. DING! That rifle is done. It already has everything a guy could ever want on an AR, even if it weren't an SBR or FA. Top notch, Sir.
