Does anyone have any figures on how many citations like the navy cross have been awarded? The only time i've heard of valor like Brian Chintosh is on the show Shootout on the History channel. I only heard of one Medal of Honor given out to the Army Sergeant who manned a 50 cal and saved alot of guys.
It infuriates me that you never hear about stuff like this and the only thing they focus on is body counts and how screwed up it is over there all in the name of television ratings. The only way i stay informed is this site and 2 buddies of mine over there now. |

That was 1st Sgt Paul E Smith- (LINK to background of his service and the incident that bestowed the MOH), who was awarded the Medal of Honor, postumously These two men, and many like them, have my highest respect. Website with listing of medal awardees - GWOT and beyond  |

I was just commenting about the lack of Heros in the media. We KNOW there is no lack of HEROs, but that's not the opinion of the media and that disturbs me greatly. Our sons and daughter are damn lucky to have leadership like Cpt. Chontosh. |

That gentleman is actually a member of this board. Diesel06 I think. He's an instructor down at OCS now. He was the guest of honor at my company MC Ball last november. Only took but 6 minutes but it was the most moto speech I ever heard...

The Sergeant that won the CMH was SFC Paul R. Smith; a Sapper with the 3rd ID who manned a .50 cal on a disabled M113 and fought off a vicious counterattack by the Iraqis at the Baghdad Airport, eventually sacrificing his life to protect the men under his command.
SFC Paul Ray Smith I think this guy truly deserved the CMH as well, but as a true professional, he probably doesn't care much for the medals, he did it because it was part of his job as a Marine. SEMPER FI! |

Close. He actually went to be an instructor at The Basic School for a few months and is now an instructor at Infantry Officer Course. The guy is funny as hell, and just as you all might imagine, he thinks nothing of what he did. He was just doing what he thought needed done to protect his boys. |
