I'm thinking about an SBR purchase. What is the experts' opinon on the caliber for a first gun?

I'm not an expert but a 50 Beowulf would be cool.

I'm no expert.  But if your going SBR I would reccomend a 9mm AR

Too much energy is lost with the 5.56 if you go below a 10 inch barrel.

However in a pinch a 7.5" ar can be a nice camp fire starter
