I don't think the Marine Corps would appreciate me giving out recievers.
I would if I could. |
I actually bought a civilian lower with less finish than that (it was preban/NY).
Neat pictures. |
Oh they won't mind as long as you give it to a Marine. Just send the lower to me. I'll take real good care of it... |
And we see the effect of the old draw it once a week and cleaning for a half day, even if it hasn't been fired in a long time.
One of two things has happen, it was a depot level rebuild because of the upper and lower difference. Or what I think is more likely, when a group of Marines were sitting cleaning weapons and a upper from one rifle got put on a lower from another. I have signed for several companies' worths of rifles over the years and you never see mixed uppers and lowers. |
In that case, I'll take the upper! |
That's probably true, the bore looked to be in excellent shape. |
Those pics reminds me of my International Harvester M1 Garand which I got from the CMP/ DCM program.
I think that's the way old rifles should look like, that's why I'm trying hard not to refinish my Garand. |
Probably to late now, but I would love to see a pic of the entire rifle. Those pics are nice!
God, I wish I could shoot enough to make my rig look like that!
(no, it's a bit late for enlisting... ) |
I wonder how well it shoots?
I wouldn't mind testing it out WIZZO |
SA-WEEEET!
I'd like to take her to the range, take her home for a good cleaning and examine all those markings and numbers very closely. I'll send her back in a few years. |
Thanks for sharing, those are great pictures.
That rifle is a rebuild. The bolt and barrel are replacments. Also note the rather low serial number, USGI Colt M16A2 start at about 6000000. Where is the right side view? Is there a Rock Island Armory refurb stamping on the other side of the lower? Curious, don't know if RIA does any rebuilds for the Marines? |
She looks like she is just about broken in for a Marine's rifle.
Did you also notice the dimpled front takedown pin? |
Absolutely gorgeous ! |
got tons of beauties like that in our armory , 607 is pretty old when i went through boot camp in 98 ipi my rifle was 605xxxx and it was well beat, but anyways we have a bunch of 607's still floating around and the reason most of em look like that is over cleaning with improper cleaning products, simple green, cleaning the extrnal of the barrel with a chamber brush, brake cleaner, simple green, oven cleaner (which will make an m-16 all shinny and bling bling in about 30 mins) i could go on forever, and of course plain ol useage
Yes I did. First time I saw one of those is when I ordered Colt's part number 62221 from GUN PARTS CORP. about 10 years ago and got one. Just got three or so a few weeks back from another collector, and then started looking a pics, and I can't find a pic of a single rifle with one of those pivot pins. |
I remember that, what was it that you dunked that in? |
Castrol Super Clean (CSC) |
Check out the delta ring..Worn flat
And I totally dig the worn out A2 gripAt least it has a new set of handguards on it. |
Look at these pictures http://www.autoweapons.com/photosn/photosdec04/880m16.html I would suspect that the dimpled pivot pins and selector were dropped in 1964 so the dimpled pin on this M16A1 in the link is not original. |
The old war whore has character...and the selector switch has more positions than my ex-wife!
It probably even shoots way better than it looks too. |
Not a "depot" rebuild at all.
The barrel was replaced at Ordnance Maintenance Co. over at 2D Maintenance Bn. (Camp Lejeune is where this one is??) the bolt would have been replaced at the unit level along with the front pivot pin. There are "many" of those old dimpled pins out there on the A2s...I even remember getting some of those in when we ordered replacements. |
Is a barrel swap a 3rd of 4th shop function? I know OMC does 3rd and limited 4th echelon, if the swap was done under its role as a 4th shop, it would considered "depot level." Although normally when the term depot is used most think of Albany and Barstow, it's anytime 4th echelon shop services are performed. |
It's 3rd as some large Bn size units have "limited 3rd" capability and they do their own barrel swaps etc.
Well all it takes to have "limited 3rd" is "the tools, know how and a CO willing to sign off on the limited 3rd authorization letter." I had to go through that nut role a few months back when I wanted to have a limited 3rd capability.
Thanks for the info. |
Going to start this topic up in a more appropriate forum. |
Hey that's mine...I paid the taxes on it.
Would you please pack it up and send it to me...pretty please. Cool pics thanks. |
Now that's the way a gun should look |
No one can blame a 'break in' period for piss-poor shooting, thats for sure.
I had one issued (as I'm sure many here did) that looked a bit worse than that -- the upper and lower were about the same color gray as the background of these threads, it rattled like a mofo, and the buttstock was loose.
It shot like a freakin' laser, though, 6 rounds to zero; the mechanical zero was dead nuts on. |
do you have a close-up picture from under the charging handle latch?
I think he meant 1mm side to side...I hope... |
