There is absolutly nothing wrong with this caliber!!

It fucks you up big time and produces a more deadly wound than any .30 cal round. Period.

I was going to say he should test his theory; Shoot himself in each thigh, one with .223, and one with .308. Then report the results.

Edited to add: he said ANY .30 round? Well then don't just go with the lowly old .308, why not try a softpoint .338 Lapua Magnum?

Your logic is all wrong buddy, you'll never win the "this bullet is the most deadly, period, end of story, kiss my ass" argument.
The argument that you WILL win is the "this round is perfect for what I use it for, plinking, medium range target shooting and just having fun" argument. Because that is God's honest truth.

A mathematical note: he said .30, which has two significant digits, the last being 0. So .338 is not included, because it is a .33. Had he said a .3 caliber bullet, your inclusion of the Lapua would have been warranted.

This guy sounds like an authority, we should listen, I personaly will never hunt elk with my 300wsm or my 06 again, because the 5.56 is much more lethal, maybe we can convince the elk of that!

5.56 isnt the problem, the M855 bullet and SS109 projectile is where the problem is

For some reason someone in the DOD thinks penetration at 500 yards is more important than fucking your enemies up at 100 yards...

Ahh, lets take this argument to 800+ yards..

30-378 Weatherby magnum, .300 Wthby mag, .300 SAUM, .300 Ultra mag, .300 H&H mag, .300 WSM, are all .30 caliber rounds that can produce far better wound channels..

Not knocking 5.56 though, I don't want shot with a bb gun..

The ability to penitrate in to vehicles at 500 meters and wound or kill the drivers is important. As is the ability to penetrate body armor, helmets etc.

Combat at 500 meters...how often does that happen. Walk around where you live, odds are something will obstruct your view every 50 meters, so unless your bullet can go around things in the way, you'll seldom, if ever, have the chance to engage something cleanly at 500 meters

M193 will defeat armor and auto glass at typical combat ranges....

Combat at 200 meters is possible, but 500; rare, with the expection of snipers

Regardless, the highest lethality at 100 yards and under is far far more important than long range penetration seeing as short range and CQB is the situation encountered 90% of the time....

i agree it some extent... if you line up a 75gr 223 round against a standard ball 308 round... within the frag. distance of 75gr... yes it most likely will produce a more lethal shot...

however... it is quite proven that 155 amax 308 is the most lethal self defense round to date
