I noticed on my new Oly that, when disassembled, the top of the trigger assemply has a large "triangle" piece on it that appears to have some wear in the finish.  Does this piece slide against the bolt to make it fire?  If so, can this piece be polished for a better trigger pull?

Thoughts?

If you don't know how/why the parts work you sure as hell shouldn't be polishing anything.  You can easily screw up the trigger if you're dicking around w/o the right knowledge.

There is nothing you can polish on an AR-15 to make a better trigger pull.  A GUNSMITH can stone the sear surfaces, but it's not advisable to mess with those either.  Does it function fine?

Well you know what the experts say don't you? The best trigger job for an AR is NOT to do a trigger job.

only way to do a trigger job is to replace the trigeger. You can modfy the hammer sear surfaces without making an unsafe rifle.

if you want to modify your trigger look up the 15 minute trigger job on google. simple to do, works pretty well.
