I have heard they are and herd they are not.  Was wondering if anyone knew for sure?

They are not.  They use 4140.

The only people to use 4150 are:
1) Colt
2) Bushmaster
3) the Chrome lined barrels sold by CMMG
4) FN

Edited to add:
Whoops forgot the 'new kid': LMT

I think DPMS sells 4150 if you request it, but I don't really know.

I think they are the ones that make the barrels for CMMG.

Correct and as far as I know CMMG is the only one with those barrels.

Sorry, I couldn't control myself for a minute.  As stated, no, they're not.

Here is J&T's claim about their DS-4 (M4) barrels.....

"The DS-4 barrel, is hardly a "mock" at all, as it is made by the same company that manufactures them for COLT. The only difference is that they aren't chrome-lined, and they aren't marked "C"."

And, now, you can pay $50 more and get the barrel chrome-lined.

So, if that company is making them "for Colt", and colt uses 4150 steel barrels, doesn't this mean that
J&T's M4 barrels are 4150 also?

Interesting....

I'm pretty sure that DPMS no longer makes CMMG's barrels. They "role their own" as CMMG put it.

Since Colt makes Colt barrels I very much doubt if they are selling to J&T.

You may be right, but that's not what J&T is claiming.

J&T has a good rep. and most people have had good experiences with them and consider them upfront and honest.

So, the mystery continues I guess....

Would this be the same J&T that claims to be using 'FN' parts also?  Absolute BS from J&T... Listen to Forest, he won't steer you wrong...

my J & T kit has a M4 profile stamped "DSC 1-9 CHROME",what i was told Colt FC parts(hammer stamped with an "M"),totally unmarked B/C group,a FSB with numerous marks and an A2 upper with a"keyhole shape with 3 vertical dots in it".lol,so i'm not too sure where any of it really came from.

just my .02c

ETA: although i was told my barrel came from the same supplier as Colt's barrels too,and all other parts were FN,except for the Colt FC parts which is all J & T uses.

Isn't J&T one of the board's financial contributors? I think I'll head over to their thread and make them aware of this one. Maybe we can get a response.

ADD: I just went and posted on their thread. We'll have to wait and see what they say.

Let me ask this question. Other than "its what the military uses", is the user ever going to notice the diff between 4140 vs 4150 either by using accuracy or durability as a scale?

DOA....

HOW DARE YOU.....

...bring common sense into this. Don't you know that we LIVE for meaningless discussions about minor unimportant points....

That's it. I'm givin' up on this board completely and going back to sitcoms fulltime.....

Pffffffff.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.
From JT's site....
------------------------
Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes your barrels?
We use E. R. Shaw for our standard barrels, and Wilson Arms for our chrome lined barrels.

What is the twist rate?
Our standard HBAR's are a 1x9 twist; our bull barrels are 1x8. 1x10 bull barrels are also available.

What are your barrels chambered for?
Our standard barrels are chambered for 5.56 Nato. We are currently working on getting some barrels produced with the .223 Wylde chamber for CMP shooters.

Are your barrels chrome lined?
Our standard HBAR's are 4140 chrome moly steel. Chrome moly will be more accurate but not quite as durable as a chrome lined barrel. We have a few models of barrels that we offer a chrome lined option on.

Who makes the parts in your kits?
We use Shaw barrels (the same company that makes barrels for Colt), we also use military contractors to supply our parts. These manufacturers also make parts for other manufacturers such as Colt, Fabrique Nationale, and others.

dunno...<shrugs>

Not so fast......

So, if they use Wilson Chrome-lined barrels, are they 4140, or 4150 steel?

The site says that their HBARs are 4140, an M4 barrel isn't an HBAR......

Will we never know? AHHHHHHAHHHHHHAHHHHHAHHHHH!

But, really, at this point....who cares.

J&T are good people.....
