I am about to purchase my first AR-15, which I plan to use mostly for CMP target shooting.  I have found one that I like, which was built by a smith who did an excellent job building the pistols I use for Bullseye.  I did not set out looking for a rifle with a flash suppressor, but the only one he currently has available was built with a flash suppressor.  Having now given it some thought, I like the idea of having the flash suppressor -- it is closer to mil spec, and who knows when the federal or state laws may change so they can no longer be obtained!  So my question is, are there any drawbacks to having a flash suppressor on a target rifle?  I assume it will not affect the accuracy, but please let me know if you disagree.  Also, would there be any problem in taking it to out-of-state matches (I live in Maryland) -- either transporting it there by car or using it in another state?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Suppressor or flash suppressor? Two completely different things, buddy.

Sorry for the confusion, Blackjack!  I am talking about a flash suppressor, and I have edited my original message to make this clear.

You will have problems taking a rifle equiped with a flash suppressor and/or collapsible stock, bayonette lug, or magazines holding more than 15 rounds into states such as NJ, NY, CT, CA - any state that has its own version of the Assault Weapons Ban.
