what way do they go in what sides should the grooves be on

I really don't believe it matters, but I've always inserted the hammer and trigger pins toward the eject side <left to right> with the groove on the left of the lower receiver... As long as the hammer spring leg is properly secured in the groove of the trigger pin you'll be good to go...
