hello- just tossin' a few ideas around in my head right now.  i'm thinkin' i might enjoy the 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" FH attached.  it's gonna be mounted to an A2 upper, so i'm gonna have a short sight radius.  just wonderin' what the pros/cons were to this length.  also, and i realize this is probably a dumb question, but wil a bayonet mount properly on an 11.5?  i know it won't on a 16", but it will on a 14.5.  i hope i'm not bein' a total moron here.

They're kind of worthless, IMO..but they do look cool if that's your thing.

You get all the drawbacks of a short barrel (low velocity, BIG blast and flash) with NONE of the benefits (short overall length).  I'd pass, myself.  If you just like the way they look, Choate makes a FS that goes on a 16" that telescopes back over the barrel to give it the look of an 11.5"/5.5" but you still get the advantage of that extra 4.5" of barrel.

Just get a 14.5" with a Phantom or Vortex.

I just built one Monday morning (early ) using a Bushmaster upper. I would go for the 14.5" with Phantom permanently attached. I only built mine because it's something different from the other 8 AR's I already had. And yes, a bayo will mount to it fine.

I had one.  It pegs out the cool meter, but that's about it.  You give up velocity and get a huge fire ball.  They can call it a 'hider' but mine didn't hide squat!  Oh yeah, the only benefit I can think it that you can put a bayonete (sp?) on it.  For what that's worth!

I built one too. It is nice on the cool factor, but ballistics stink. For what I was building I wanted better ballistics. I will probably build another one sometime in the future.

I say it even looks stupid.

I have one just for poops and giggles.  It's fun to take out every once in awhile and it's light weight.  I'd say go for it if you have most of the other configurations...you can never have too many ARs

dumb; unless you got a death wish

get a 14.5 with a fh (if its a rifle caliber) minimum

It isn't like I'm going to take mine into combat or even defend my home with it. This is one of those guns that qualifies as a toy. Still fun though, in a Bulletfest kind of way.

It's good for a plinker and the coolness factor, that's about it.

Sorry guys, I love mine, only gives up 200 FPS from my other 16" barrels.  This is based on my reloads and my chrony.

I love mine but as others have said it wouldn't be my first or second AR.  I have 11 or so so I wanted something different.  I've got a Form 1 in right now to take it much higher on the coolness factor.

Looks great, but, less effective than a 14.5" or a 16" barrel.

why not go with an 11.5 barrel and the 4.5 flash suppresor,11.5+4.5=16 in.;if going for originality the xm177e2 had that combo, not the 5.5.

If its going to be 16", make it something useful, like rifled bore.

Lets see. Its still 16" long. The 16" barrel with FH is about 16.75-17". In my opinion, the extra .5-1" length is worth it over the 11.5 with perm attached FH, especially when I can add a good FH or suppressor. The only way the 11.5" barrel would be worth it to me would be if you SBR it.

Do what I did, lose the 5.5" part.
