I am planning on buying a RRAVarmint and am trying to decide on what twist. They offer 1-8 and 1-12. I am planning on groundhog and coyote hunting with it. I pretty much will be using vmax bullets 50-55 grs. I am a benchrest shooter primarily(don't hold it against me)and people have told me to go with the 1-12.Is this correct?RRAtold me that the 1-8 would stabilze a 60 gr no problem. I am wondering if any one out there has any practical experience. What could i expect for accuracy?(the benchrest in me)Thanks

Get the 1-8 for the bullet weight you stated.  The match ammo or reload consistance, free float barrel, type of scope and the operator will then determine the accuracy.

Have fun.

A 1/8 will stabilize anything from 55 grains to 77+ approx.

Under 55gr use 1/12. Under 69gr use 1/9. Anything more, use 1/8 or 1/7.

1:12 if you are sticking with 55grs and less.
If you plan on using a heavier bullet for another activity, well, that's as good an excuse as any for another upper.

A noob question here.  I heard that if you use a light, fast HP in a 1/7 or 1/9, the jacket can split and spin off the core. Any truth?
