I have the opportunity to buy 50-75 Brand New Old Stock Colt XM177E2/SP1 carbine Vinyl Acetate (Rubber) coated stocks made in the 1970's. Because I have to import these and pay for them upfront I plan on doing this as a group buy so I’m not out of pocket thousands of $$$$$.
  These stocks are new never attached factory Colt in Colt packaging. They are complete and come on a 2- position tube with carbine buffer and spring. Price should be some where in the $175-195 range and will include shipping. Used take offs are running $250+ so the price should be attractive. Time frame is within the next 30-45 days. I would like to but cant afford to do it. I was planning on building an XM177 clone but will not be able to even think about it until I get back from the sandbox.

BTT-updated with time frame......for those that have emailed saying the price is too high...trying finding a used Colt Sp1 cabine stock under $250 in new condition.....................not going to happen. These haven't been made since 1983 and the only way you will find them is as a used take off from a Colt Sp1 carbine. I don't think $175+/- is out of line.

$175 is a steal compared to old take offs that go up to $400 for a new one! SAW has new ones for $500. A new Colt M4 stock is $125, what is $50 more for an original classic to do a XM177 clone? Come on people, get real.

I just couldnt pay that when a new CAR stock is under $100, and M4 stocks are under $70. I might be interested if the price were closer to $125 or so.

I dont think the price is bad, and I wouldnt mind buying one, but like I said I just cant do it now... I wish I had more of a heads up. Maybe I could swing it with more time to save but I just have too many projects going right now to be able to afford it. I wish I could and I know I will be kicking myself in the ass later for not doing it.

This is a great opportunity for an ESOTERIC piece of gear. The problem is I doubt that there are that many people who want to build a clone that accurate. My prediction is you will not get 50 people willing to spend that much on the stock. To faithfully do an XM 177 ya need an A1 lower as well so they are out there but not too many of them. Anyway, good luck getting enough people together to get them back into the country.

The issue for me, and maybe a lot of others, is not that the price is too high, but that the bucks we've got set aside for "gun stuff" right now is all going into "un post banning" our other guns
 Heck, I've owned an XM177ed SP1 for over 25 years, and I'd buy one of these for a spare, but my relatively small shooting budget is already allocated for other stuff. Colt-653, if you can put the deal off for 6 months, I'll be interested; but right now I just don't have the spare cash.

I think you are the one that needs to read. People are complaining they are too much money. If some can't afford one, that is fine. I am not bashing them for that. The point you missed is these stocks are significantly cheaper than what people have been paying for them and I don't think there is much room to complain. |

I'll buy at least one! I hope that you get enough people willing to buy them at this price to allow you to do it.
Folks, check out new gennie Colt collapsables, $150+ from the people that actually have them. Others may advertise lower prices, but they are either chronically "out of stock" or not the real thing. It is ridiculous to compare these with the aftermarket replacements that are out there. Different items for completely different purposes! |

Did you read the first 3 posts?! Can you read? 3 people said they didn't like the price. They never accused Colt_653 of overcharging and I never said they did accuse him. And I will repeat my orginal point that you are still missing... These stocks are significanly less than available anywhere else. This might be the only chance in your lifetime to get a new one this cheap. |

Analogy: Sometimes a Rolls-Royce offered at half price is still just too much for some to pay. Now no one would say that a 50% off sale ain't a great deal, it sometimes just comes down to timing.
Re: XM177E2 clone builders - 1.) A lot already have the stock, and 2.) How many real accurate builders are there that will justify you buying that many? Maybe it would be a good long-term investment for you, but it looks like it will be hard to get a lot of folks to slap leather right now. An example are the folks that bought a whole buttload of MAC10s SMGs, sat on them for years, and now are getting $3000+ ea. for their initial $400/unit investment. YMMV ETA: ...that said, I'd be in for one @$175

Too much for what it is. I guess if your into a retro build and are looking for accuracy, then this ain't that bad. I think most folks will go for a new production model at a lower price.

Maybe I am missing something, but why pay $250 for a old stock that is not as functional (being a 2 position) when you can pay $100 for a 6 position one???? It doesnt add up to me.....

You certainly ARE missing something. These are original COLT stocks, new, and haven't been available for years. They can be best used to help restore an old Colt carbine with a broken (or missing) stock (as a collectable), or to build a reasonably authentic looking VN-style XM177 (CAR) clone. Apples and oranges!! |

$250 used? Gad, I have an old SP1 (circa 1980-1981) with one of these Colt 2 position vinyl acetate covered stocks. I was thinking of replacing it with the newer M4 style. Now after reading this thread I am wondering it would be better just to leave it alone. Unfortunately being in New York, I have to stick with "pre-9/13/1994" equipment.
