MSTN sells a sweet clone SPR barrel too.

Wes at MSTN is the pimp you need to talk to. Highest quality and great prices.

Wes has the "real deal" SPR barrels with the correct profile that he gets from the guy who actually makes the barrels for the military. However, at $400 for the barrel w/o brake, they are rather pricey even though I have to admit I bought one from him.
The bitch of it is that a friend of mine made a budget Mk12 Mod1 using a barrel from Adco that he got with the faux brake. He bought his w/ the faux brake for $325 and his shoots just as good as mine using the 77grn handloads we use. I think I actually prefer the heavier profile of Adco's barrel anyhow so now I know what I'll be using for my own budget Mk12 Mod1 when the time comes around.
FYI the barrel and Ops Inc brake combo that MSTN sells will set you back about $700. So for the quality of what you get, Adco's barrel is definetely worth it, unless you have to have the "real thing" like I did at the time.

I'm really not interested in paying a huge premium for the "real deal". My wife is very interested in shooting all of the sudden. It could be that she shot my pants off today at the range with my 24" SS varmit AR hat

How does the ADCO shoot with lighter bullets (55/62gr)?

Try Jason at JTAC Supply  He is doing my SPR clone and he uses the WOA Wilson barrel also.  If you are going for  a "budget SPR"  you will not regret talking to him.  At least get price quotes from everyone before you buy.  I have seen one of MSTN's in person and it was SWEET but for $2000 for a complete upper it better be.  He is also the only one to get the real military Ops Inc 2 port brake, but for the barrel and brake it is $700 bucks.  I have not seen any of ADCO's work in person.  I never understood putting the "faux" brake and collars on.  If you want the real deal look that bad save up and get it from MSTN and get a real brake.  Mine from JTAC has an A1 flash hider on it because that is what I wanted and it will serve a purpose.  Either way MSTN or JTAC will get you good stuff.

MSTN also offers Krieger barreled SPRs.  My own SPR was built by Crane's subcontractor, but I got it through MSTN though it wasn't a normal offering - just worked out that way.

If you want to go all out, get as close/authentic as possible and got the clams to do it - go MSTN.  If you are on a budget or don't need to get the real deal, go ADCO - you won't be disappointed.  It's all a matter of what it means to you - or the people you are trying to impress.  Are you a collector, want to know (or others to know) you got the real thing, or is a clone that may function and look virtually as well or close to it good enough?  Can you afford to even have that choice?

Even if you aren't attempting to have a military SPR or clone, the SPR configured barrels are a fine choice for any SPR type AR.  I'm thinking of a new build using an SPR type barrel, and it will look nothing like an SPR.

I can afford the real deal but I choose not to. I'm actually not in it to impress either. I personally like the SPR look especially with the PRI GenIII and ARMS PEQ rail. My understanding is the ADCO WOA barrels shoot well also. It sounds like MSTN makes an impeccable upper but you pay for it. It also sounds like you can get a clone from ADCO for a reasonable price albeit the brake is purely cosmentic. It's not like a 5.56 kicks hard anyway.

Thanks for all of the advice. I'll check out JTAC also.

I have a WOA Wilson bbl from ADCO, and it shoots great.  It's pretty easy to keep 5 shots under 1" @100.  No brake, just an A2.  Let's face it, with the weight of the bbl and ARMS rail, the gun hardly moves at all under recoil.

Please post a pic of the complete upper!  I am considering an SPR upper build but was thinking about using a vortex instead of the OPS break/collar as I will likely never purchase the sound suppressor so I may as well kill some flash.

thanks

I decided to go with Steve at ADCO. I placed an order for a WOA SBR contoured barrel with collar and brake mounted on a Rock River upper. I also got the PRI GEN III rifle length handguard and the PRI rifle length rail and the SBR styled gas block.

Justin, After recieving visably poor work from a shop, sending it back with authorization, recieving a second time poorly corrected product, I consider very poor service.  Some very capable shops turn out substandard work. I have no respect for it.  It should be corrected the second time buy a competent technician. Mine still sucks.
