I found this picture in the Minneapolis Red Star and Tribune this morning since the upgrade to the threat level to orange.
  A couple years ago a mental midget took a metro transit bus to the airport with an SKS stuffed in a duffle bag. He started shooting and the cops took him down pretty fast with no other injuries except for perp.

They should leavr the dust cover closed so there is no chance of debris however unlikely to get in.If you have to fire the cover will open quick enough.I do beleive you are right it looks chrome to me.
