I have heard that the Vortex FH is more effective than the Phantom FH which is more effective than the A2 FH.

Anyone got pics to prove this?

Pics no - first hand experience yes.

You above assesment is accurate - but with descent ammo the differences between the Phantom & Vortex will not be noticed.

With really bad ammo you'll be see the Vortex is the better of the flash supressors.

Thanks Forest,

I was goign to replace the FH on a preban, and as long as the phantom and vortex are both very effective, I would just assume use the less expensive one that looks a bit more durable.

I think this picture is from Smith Ent. It does not show Vortex vs Phantom, but it does show you what Vortex can do...

If you're looking for a cool flash suppressor, go with the Phantom.  Don't get the new  politically correct Phantom now being sold by Bushmaster.  Get the one being sold by DPMS.  I think DPMS calls it a Panther.

In my experience whether its lw flash Black Hills or Q3131A the Phantom has the same flash signature.  Its a dull glow outside the front of the flash hider about the size of a cigarette cherry and about as bright.  The Vortex has no flash at all.

Don't forget that if you use the Phantom or Vortex, you are going to have downward muzzle blast which can kick up dust.  I like the Vortex, but it is not good when prone on dirt/dust/sand.

The one being sold by bushmaster has the prongs cut off.  The DPMS one doesnt.

So the prongs make the FS more effective or are we just shunning anything considered politically correct?  [;)]

PC? give me a "brake". I had the 4 slot and now I have the 5 slot.

you can't get 5 slots with the prongs. It does not have enough material to allow it, so Yankee had to make a new design.

PC...sheeeesh.
