I had a person build me an AR to use in the practical rifle matches.  For just a little more than an off the rack rifle, I think I got a much nicer one.  Anyway, he put in a titanium firing pin.  Another person said to lose it, but did not really say why.  I was wondering what the feelings of the people here are and why.  It seems to me that it must be an extra charge item and I wouldn't think he would add it unless he thought they were good.  Let me know what you think.  Incidently, he is currently out of town for a few weeks, so I can not talk to him for awhile.

I've seen them for as low as $6. I'm going to order one as a backup in the event my pin breaks. I've read they strike faster being lighter but I suppose that "could" result in shorter life.

Titanium is an excellent metal to make large solid assemblies like handgun frames.  The problem comes in when its machined into fine edges like 1911 hammers and sears and long thin pieces like firing pins.  Titanium tends to be somewhat brittle in these forms and can break.  I at one time ran titanium hammers and sears in my competition handguns but they broke too often.  

Stick with the standard.  The titanium version offers no advantages that are worth the decrease durability.

I agree LUMPY ive broken them in my AR and 1911.
They never last as long as the standard replacements

Spend your money on ammo, not gimmicks.
