Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Do all cast parts have the same rough feeling?

I was handling a OLY arms plinker the other day and examining the cast parts (So I know what they look and feel like)

The lower had a very rough texture, can this be expected for all cast lower receivers?

Is their a particular method of telling the difference between cast and forged?

It depends on what the end result is supposed to be. On a non-critical surface, the extra machining, or preparation would likely eat up any cost savings.
