Not necessarily a SHTF situation, but in light of homeland security and your bug out kit, you have a choice of weapon to accompany your 72hr supply. Think of all the scenarios. Your choice is between an M4, 12ga riot gun, .308 bolt rifle, or .45/9mm auto pistol. What'll it be and why?

I'd go with the M4. The shotgun and pistol don't have the range and the .308 bolt action I would be to slow with if their was allot going on. The M4 has good range, fires quickly, is accurate and holds allot more rounds than the others. Second choice would be the shotgun to make sure I hit what I was aiming at and it has more scare factor.

SHTF mostly under 25 meters : 12 gauge
General SHTF : M4gery or M16A4gery
I think .308 bolt gun is out of question unless you have friendlies providing cover for you to concentrate on long range engagements.

M4,pistol(9mm,45) and the 12 guage. ammo is the easiest to obtain and is the best short med/long range combo) thats my SHTF list.

Board rules dictates that I choose the M-4. [:)]

Seriously, you left out the best option - a .22 rifle.

Autoloading pistol. Just because it's conceilable.

If Bushmaster works the bugs out of the Carbon15 pistol...

You need something small and powerful.  You need to be able to move quickly with as little to carry as possible.  I'd take the 9mm.

Not intentional. About every shooter has at least some variant. Maybe not an M4, could be SKS. If not .308, then 30-06 or 30-30 deer rifle. Still thinking about the .22 rifle response...

I've never shot a 5.56 pistol like the bushmaster carbon 15 before, but i imagine you'd have quite an amount of barrel whip, making follow-up shots rather inaccurate.

50 rounds..compact..
I like that gun.
But..my m4 would be a definite.

AND OF COURSE! I would have to have Chen Lee's "Accessory" in the last pic. [:D]

Why can't you have a rifle and a pistol?  A loaded pistol and a couple extra mags is going to weigh in around 4 pounds.

I'm not convinced that 5.56 out of that short barrel is terribly effective, beyond setting the enemy on fire with the muzzle flash. Velocity would be pretty low.

LMFAO!  No doubt, no doubt...I'd guesstimate it'd be approximately 22magnum velocity,  with a pretty light show.
