Last comment on first time shooting the 6.5, with the 18" barrel I believe it was shooting a little slower than the box, but not by much. Was pretty good with the computer when I dialed 500, was on the manhole first shot, but far right side, about a 9 mph wind R to L, but in general it shot pretty true to the ammo box fed into the computer. I'd like to find some ammo with a better BC just to see the differences when I get to Best of the West. Bad thing about doing it at the ranch, there's no clue if you miss usually, need a better berm to give feedback, but don't want those all over the ranch.

Has anyone ordered one of these lately? I'm trying to figure out if the longer handguard is still an option, as the website only shows the 14.5" option. Was there another option available when you ordered yours?

Didn't see the long rail when I ordered so called in to place my order and they offered it that way

Got mine put together but I'm still undecided on a scope. I'm new to the long range game and would love some recommendations in the $2000-2500 range. Help me spend some money!

I picked up a NXS 5.5-22x50 and love it. Shoot steel at to 1000 easily
|
|
I got the ATACR MOAR 5-25 x 56 Digillum and by close buddy has the older version of the ATACR 5-25 he actually has 2 of those one on his .308 Rem 700 and one on his Savage .338 Lapua, and both are Rock Solid (hell, Chris Kyle had a NF on his rigs, thats good enough for me being a Texan as well). There are a LOT of awesome glass setups, but I would not put too much into those articles or posts that say "this long range guy uses X", fact is guys use X or Y scope....because they are sponsored and paid by the....AND they have good scopes.
Big differences in the newer ATACR I like, full 30 MOA around on the turret, big upgrade. Also.....the Zero Stop, if you are getting a scope at this price range, I'd spring for the Zero Stop version, especially if you're out in the field. I got a NF Unimount as well, but I wouldn't discount the Larue mounts, everything he puts out is badass that I've seen. NXS is super high quality, I just spend time in West Texas, and out there things get banged around A LOT, so I wanted the ATACR that is built more for the field, NXS is more a combo of Bench/Field , so I went ahead and got the full field one. 16x is plenty to shoot long range, hell sniper school you have to use 10x to qualify, so don't over think it, but if you're wanting to go to 1000, and you have the budget, I'd say go 25x or more. I have buddies that love Vortex, and S&Bender too. Lots of good options, but I like the NF a ton. |
|
What is your definition of long range and what caliber did you order?
ATACR 4-16 or the 5-25 are good choices. I like Nightforce alot and they are reasonably priced for what they offer. I've had alot of them and have never had one go down. Either would be my first choice over anything else. Also consider the vortex razor if you don't care about the added weight. Kahles gen 3 scopes are very nice and I really love the parallax knob around the elevation turret. They make a great scope and the reticle choices are a cut above the Nightforce. What you should pay special attention to is whether you want a mil scope or an moa scope. If you dont know thw difference read up on the advantages of each and choose carefully. Reticle choice is important too depending on what you like so utilize the Internet and look at everything available so you can make the best choice for your needs. |

6.5 CM. I have access to a 600 yard range but would eventually like to get out to 1000. I'm thinking 5-25 for sure.
I don't have a mil/moa preference, I'll do some reading up. Most all my optics are red dots or hunting scopes so I don't have much experience with either mil/moa Thanks for the info. It seems like buying it is the easy part, so many choices. |

I have gone through this and maybe I’m missing it, but does anyone know If there will be an MLok version of the handguard for this gun. I have zero problem with the KeyMod for normal use, but I’ll be I West Texas on buggies and this gun will get knocked around, I’d like to use MLok as I put stuff on it possibe.

Ok so lets talk factory ammo..
What seems to be the box ammo of choice ? The 130GR Gold medal Berger or the 140GR Hornady ? For accuracy, function with a suppressor, and 1000yd performance I can shoot out to 1300yd at my gun club.. |

Here is what I have tried in my 22” 6.5CM UU rifle-
- Hornady American Gunner 140 gr - Federal American Eagle 140 gr - Federal GMM 130gr Berger - Prime 130 gr Rifle stacks them up with the Hornady American Gunner, which is convenient since it’s so cheap. Half inch or less at 100yds if I do my part. The Federal AE 140gr also shot good. FGM 130gr Bergers were disappointing, like 1.5-1.75”. Prime 130s also shot good, but haven’t shot enough to really wring them out yet. |

Any load data for 140gr nosker partition and accubonds. Tried some xbr8208 and imr4350 using noslers guidlines. Xbr8208 had exceeded accuracy but was a bit slow, was having issue getting a goodreading meed to borrow a magneto and the imr got at 41gr aroud 2500fos, again think this has to be flawed readings here using my CEP el chepo chronograph. Never had issues beofre today but would get readings of just 500fps off the grendel and creedmor larues.
Anyways have a few whitetail trips coming up and want to get a good fast hunting load sorted out for the Noslers. Especially before I order a scope cap for my leupold vx6hd 3-18x44. I was going to get more partitions as I was running low. Yet the shooter pro shop didnt have any blems. They did have the accubonds which I kinds prefer for thisgun due to the higher bc and think it should be a great bullet for elk and moose. I just need some good comfirmed load data for it. Open to using different powders. Will be running norma brass and cci large rifle primers. Thanks. Have a great weekend. |

That LaRue BCG is a work of art - I got a little bit of JB Weld on it while at the gun bench and the next day I was able to carefully scrape it off without any issue. Whatever coating or finish that is on it is nice! That handguard is aluminum (cheap) but has a steel barrel nut so it’s functional.
I believe the handguard ran me 39.00 bucks I have a few of them in the arsenal (that step down like that from upper receiver to handguard) and the pigs never know the difference when they get hit with the round.... Still shoots like a LaRue though |

Very nice! What ammo? Has anyone shot any of the $12 a box 140gr Sellier & Bellot 6.5CM? |
|
Thanks D3!
Hornady 140 gr ELD Match. Shot at 100 yards with a Bushnell 3.5-21x50 FFP Elite Tactical HDMR with Horus H59 Reticle in an LT111-34. It is the older version of the scope that is on the LT website now. Can’t beat the price for a FFP scope with an H59 reticle and a fantastic LaRue Tactical Mount included. I have not shot the S&B ammo yet. |

View Quote https://forum.snipershide.com/threads/sellier-and-bellot-140-gr-6-5-creedmoor.6871390/ Makes me cautious to try it with hit and miss reports of accuracy and pressure. Sportsman’s Warehouse pretty much always has Hornady American Gunner 140gr HPBT for $140/200rds with free shipping. That stuff absolutely hammers in my Larue UU rifle and another 6.5CM I built up on Aero receivers and a Faxon barrel. |

Just to share on a couple things. I shot out at the Ranch near Harper/Junction area this past weekend (was interesting make it in the mud and puzzled through all the closed/washed out roads).
Shot 100, 500, 700 and 1,000. Windy, so 1,000 took a few, and with everything mud, no dust for feedback on the miss, ha. We have man hole covers hanging at 500 and 700, and I can drill them without effort, I can let all 9 guys get on and they all go from 100-500-700 without a problem. The rifle is super, super accurate. Guy was a PJ in the AF, and laughed, said it was the best setup he had ever used. We spent 30 minutes in the blind later that evening on his phone pulling up the exact setup so he could purchase. Also shot a White Tail. I used Hornady 140gr ELD Match for paper, and for hunting I used the 140gr Nosler Accubond from Federal (P65CRDA1). It shoots through my rig, just like the ELD Match (that I can see). Mushroomed well at 100, and White Tail was DRT.....Dead Right There. I've hunted with Ballistic Tips on White Tail a lot, haven't seen anyone carry those in the 6.5. It's a little messy, but they are 100% DRT, every time with that exploding round. Placement is fatal, which is why I got this gun, and put the Night Force ATACR on it. I'm looking at getting back out and hitting some Aoudad, especially the bigger boys, hopefully out near Marfa, TX, and would like to see how this round hits on those. I'm biased, a Texan, Cedar Park right LaRue even more, but this gun drives tacks, and every person that sees it wants one. |

Tried out the Hornady American Gunner in my UU 6.5 Creedmmor today. With an 18" barrel I was getting an average of 2565 FPS with an SD 15 fps. Here's the groups.
